Jesus on TV?

by Joe Thorn on March 24, 2005

NBC will premier a new show this September called Book of Daniel.  This comedic drama will center around an Episcopal minister who is wrestling with family and church issues, an addiction to prescription pills and visits from Jesus. Don’t imagine a first-century looking Jesus. This one looks like you and me – only "cooler." Of course this will not depict the true Jesus in a way satisfying to all, if any, followers of Christ. But if the show is a hit (I think it’s headed that way – major stars and an interesting storyline) it will allow for great discussion, comparing and contrasting NBC’s "Jesus" with the One who rose from the grave and ascended into heaven. For me, this is one more opportunity to listen and dialogue. To point others to a real Savior.

Thanks to CNN and Relevant Network for tipping me off.

Good point! I’ve always considered media interpretations of the Bible as damaging. I’ve never considered your point as an opportunity to open a dialog.

Everyone is watching, so we get to just talk about it. No bait and switch. No goofy Evangecube nonsense. Just, “You watch that show on TV about Daniel and Jesus?” and the conversation is on.

What are your thoughts on the television show, “Faith Under Fire” hosted by Lee Strobel on PAX?

You know, I have never seen the PAX channel, or that show. Would love to hear your thoughts though!

I think that the show is teriffic. Please see the following website for a great synopsis of the show.
