New Friends

by Joe Thorn on May 24, 2005

Steve and I met Kevin and Dan via the blogosphere discussing church life in the 21st century. We eventually sat down in person for dinner at the Claddagh and began sharing our experiences and expectations for the future. It’s strange really. Within a few months and as many meetings these guys have become good friends that we praise God for, and I think we would all say we are better because the new friendships. Kevin and his wife are moving to Canada to further his education at Regent, so the four of us gathered again at the Claddagh to wish him God’s blessing (Grace should own a part of that franchise – search my blog for “Claddagh”). Kevin, we will miss you brother! At least we’ll see you online until you come back for a visit. Overall, the gathering was great, though it got a bit awkward toward the end when Steve broke out into “Friends are Friends Forever” by Michael W. Smith.

That’s a great pic, don’t you think? Really good. Thanks for putting it up Joe.

Great pic. Great time. I couldn’t agree more with you brother. It was strange for me to reflect on how close I feel to you guys and how much you have blessed and shaped me in such a short time. I’m super thankful for you guys! Your friendships have been more timely for me than you know. Blessings to all the folks at Grace & Calvary– people Katie and I have prayed for and don’t even know.

I’m eager to see your face again soon Joe!

You know, I really can’t help but just laugh at this, but you know all of the times you’ve told us girls that Steve is good-looking?

    You were right.

(New pictures from the trip on my xanga, btw.)

    Joe -
do you EVER smile? Just wondering?

Man, that’s my big “picture smile.” You see that same mug in our wedding photos. I guess we don’t all have Steve’s looks. ;)

  • Dan

it was definitely awkward when Steve broke out into “friends are friends forever”

Personally, I found it touching when Steve sang. In fact, I found this nostalgic in light of the fact that He tends to be on the cutting edge. He likes the obscure. For example, is that pipe he has from Eastern Europe? I think the brand was Sistirz or something. I have always seen Steve smoking his Sistirz pipe. Cutting edge for sure. So, as far as I’m concerned, the kick back to the old days was a nice change of pace.

If only I were home! I could be showing you guys multiple pictures that I have taken of Joe smiling! There is also one of him with Pepsi that I think might interest some of you.

    Guess we’ll have to wait.

Vick, you be quiet. :) Kevin, that joke (that no one can get) was hilarious.

Excuse me, Joe, but no one is allowed to call me Vick.
