Kids with Cameras

by Joe Thorn on June 10, 2005

I have not yet seen the documentary, Born Into Brothels, but the documentarian behind it is also behind the non-profit organization Kids with Cameras. The film is about the neglected and abused children of prostitutes in Calcutta. During the making of the film the filmmakers and children bonded, and one of the directors began thinking about a way to help the kids.

Kids with Cameras is a non-profit organization that teaches the art of photography to marginalized children in communities around the world. We use photography to capture the imaginations of children, to empower them, building confidence, self-esteem and hope. We share their vision and voices with the world through exhibitions, books, websites and film. We are committed to furthering their general education beyond photography either by linking with local organizations to provide scholarships or by developing our own schools with a focus on leadership and the arts.

I’ll let you know if the film is any good. For now check out the website Kids with Cameras to get a glimpse into their world. Maybe the work with chlildren will inspire you to do something yourself for those in need.

Its fun to see Jen commenting. She should do it more often.

    Funny Jen. You’re a real clown. :)

But a very lovely clown. Probably the only one who doesn’t scare me.

Funny, I almost addressed a letter to you using the above words. “To: Joey Moei Mooy Pie”

I saw a Bunyan page in your links. If you ever are researching Bunyan and the Quakers, Larry Kuenning did his PhD at Westminster and has some very good resources on the subject.

I stumbled across the page while working on a Baptist history paper a while back.
