For the Weekend

Something to watch, read and do…

The Emperor’s Club.
“Great ambition and conquest without contribution is without significance. What will your contribution be? How will history remember you?” – William Hundert
This a great movie about becoming, character, learning, regrets and influence. I was surprised to find the website is still up. It has some fun stuff there.

Calvin on The Christian Life.
The link is to a chapter from Calvin’s little book on the Christian Life. Good stuff here on avoiding the extremes of walking through the present life and its comforts. Food, drink, clothes, recreation was all meant to be enjoyed, but not lived for.

Go fishing.
The weather is supposed to be nice here in northern Illinois. Maybe you’ll catch something like this.

Whoa. THAT’S a big fish. Did you ever see that movie, Big Fish? Good show. I want to go fishing, surprisingly. I haven’t been since I was about 10, I would say.

Emperor’s Club is an amazing movie, and I’m surprised you’ve seen it.

That fish is awesome. Does it sing “Take me to the river!” Oh wait, that’s Billy Bass.

I need to watch Emperor’s Club again soon. Love that quote.

I forgot you used the same pic last month. This is one of my favorites.

    joe,

better than the emperor’s club, go rent coach carter this weekend. to me it’s far more inspirational, touching, and relevant (twista even has a cool song at the end of the movie called “hope”).

    Glenn,

I just watched Coach Carter. Very good movie. One I would suggest to a friend. But the two movies are not comparable. They have in common one central element – a teacher teaching/coaching boys, but beyond that the themes are different, as are the struggles. Each movie brings different things to the viewer. Thanks for the recommendation.
