Another denomination that has had to try to speak circles around Scripture in favor of abstinence is the Assembly of God. In their Bible, something like "Spirit-filled Bible" they have many words to try to explain away Jesus' miracle in John 2 of changing the water to wine. But God uses us all, in spite of ourselves.
