What the Bleep?

by Joe Thorn on September 20, 2005

What the Bleep Do We Know? is a popular indie film that seeks to introduce people to a new way of thinking, doing and being. It attempts to show the connection between (new) science and faith, and in the end holds out hope for individuals to create their own reality and become what they dream of. This movie is not compatible with Christianity, but does it have value in understanding, or connecting with our culture?

Adam Feldman has begun a discussion of this film on his blog, that will be worth checking out.

hey, thanks joe! fyi, i’m colaborating with mo (onemoblog) in developing this dialogue for this series. the posts will jump between our two blogs (hyperlinks will be available to each post so that no one will have to go hunting for the posts). we’ve never tried to do a communal series like this and are excited about the possiblities…

Joe– I’ve heard great things about this film from you and from others– but feel like I have heard some exceptionally horrible things about this film as well. Are you familiar with evangelicals who have not had so fond of sentiments regarding this diddy?

    Kevin,

It is a terrible movie in terms of its message and goal. It is filled with heresy and presents a very enticing system of thought. What I like about it is not the specific message, but that it demonstrates the possibility and need for a revolutionary way of thinking, doing and being. Their answer is terrible (we find it in Christ). For those whose theology is solid and who want to know what people are embracing, it is a good flick. I loved watching it. I know you would dig it as one who wants to exegete culture.

joe~ as mo and i have been publishing our thoughts on wtbdwk, we’ve discovered that it is dangerously close to being propoganda for a cult based in the pacific nw. (i say “dangerously close,” but in fact the three producers have all “graduated” from this particular “school of enlightenment.”) needless to say, it is not just bad research and poor presentation… it has a dangerous agenda.

fyi, the third post in our series on wtbdwk went up tonight.
