Two Thousand Words

Friday, June 30th, 2006

I ran across this old garage yesterday and stopped to shoot a few pics. I almost always go black and white, but for Steve I am including a color shot as well. Click on a pic for better quality.

You can check out all my pics at Flickr. Be sure to look for Steve’s Phriday Photo [...]

Why Southern Baptist?

Wednesday, June 28th, 2006

Mark Dever gives a succinct answer to the commonly asked question, “Why are you a Southern Baptist?” Check it out at the Together for the Gospel Blog.

Drinking with Jesus

Monday, June 26th, 2006

And if the way is too long for you, so that you are not able to carry the tithe, when the Lord your God blesses you, because the place is too far from you, which the Lord your God chooses, to set his name there, then you shall turn it into money and bind up [...]

Family Time

Saturday, June 24th, 2006

I took the fam’ to a local forest preserve today for a picnic. We ate, the kids ran around and played, and then we followed a hiking trail. Afterwards we hit Trader Joe’s to stock up on dark chocolate covered espresso beans, raisins and almonds.
The dog is our newest addition. “Manu” (German nickname for Manuel) [...]

Super Soundtrack

Thursday, June 22nd, 2006

Superman Returns will be released June 28th. So far at Rotten Tomatoes it has a 91% fresh rating (that’s very good). Though I am more drawn to the Batman story, I am optimistic about what Bryan Singer has done. We’ll see.
Besides, how can you not get excited about a Christ figure like Superman? To see [...]

Bringing Jesus Into Focus

Wednesday, June 21st, 2006

One of the things I appreciated about the Pastors’ Conference at the SBC this year was the emphasis, at least on the second day, on preaching the Gospel in the language of those to whom we have been sent. Yep, contextualization and cultural relevance was said to be a virtue, and I agree.
I know what [...]

St. Anne’s Pub: Controversy

Tuesday, June 20th, 2006

St. Anne’s Pub has put put another great audio journal this quarter, Controversy. Guess what, schism isn’t just a Baptist phenomenon. Our Presbyterian brothers know it all too well. This journal is typical SAP stuff: Interesting and insightful commentary, great interviews, excellent music and some very good questions to ponder. I appreciate that St. Anne’s [...]

McCoy’s Pub(lication)

Tuesday, June 20th, 2006

Be sure to check out Steve McCoy’s response to all the teetotalling chatter: Biblical Liberty and Terrified Baptists.
Of course there is one, clear biblical warrant for this kind of thinking: the Pharisees.  Yes, those “strong conservatives” knew how to take seriously all the “contextual and principle considerations” behind their extra-biblical rules.  I’m sure their intentions [...]

A Thousand Words for the Weekend

Friday, June 16th, 2006

This is a self-portrait I took during the “shoosh… shoosh… shoosh” sermon at the SBC. If you don’t know what I’m talking about, please forgive the reference. You can check out the pics I took at the Convention (not very many) and all my stuff at my Flickr Stream. Be sure to check out Steve [...]
