Pressed,

Thanks for the comment, though if you follow the whole conversation you'll find bad attitudes coming from people on both sides of this issue. This is something I have tried to avoid, though you may think I failed. I have already explained the italicized "my" in the comments, so there's no point in repeating myself.

Please explain your purpose in placing my in italics if not to be inflammatory? While I respect your opinion I did think that was pure disrespect. To follow up with the statement "I'm not trying to be a jerk" seems to reveal the fact that you knew you were making a statement that was in its premise an inflammatory comment. Your whole argument could have been made without that, and in my opinion would have been better off. For me, that set the tone for the rest of what you had to say and while I believe this is not what you were trying to accomplish it is how it came across.

I should also say that on this issue I am sure we do differ and disagree. I'm not going to take the time to present an argument either way because most of that has already been accomplished on your blog. It has been an interesting and intriguing read, but I would like to point out that while we differ on issues such as alcohol and things of that nature, we have so many other things that we agree on. I find it unfortunate that many of the commenters on this blog and on so many others have so much anger, hatred and disrespect for people who believe this resolution was a good thing. We sit around on blogs and bash one another for our differing beliefs on such a disputable matter and then at the same time complain about how we are wasting so much time on disputing these matters. I simply don't understand the thought process behind a person who would take the time to debate this issue on a blog and in the same comment say "we are wasting time debating this issue instead of doing more important things". Well if that is truly the case then WHAT ARE YOU DOING HERE? Anyway, thank you for your post.

Obviously godliness is better. I was just one father doing what he thought he could to get his sons to adulthood without them making life wrecking choices. One made it; one didn't. However, the one who didn't was gloriously saved in a jail cell and has no desire other than serving our Lord. The other got through ok but doesn't see a whole lot of need for church, even though he claims to be a believer. Go figure. They are both fine young men. The Lord blessed us greatly.

The older ones first response to me the first time he was caught smoking grass was "well you did it". I said,"yeah, I was wrong then and you're wrong now".

No I'm not the student at Boyce. In fact, it has been a long, long time since I was a student anywhere.

Thanks for letting me participate.

Jimmy, thanks for visiting the blog. Is this the same Jimmy at Boyce? We are sending another student there next month to begin classes.

I respect the abstinence position as you have described it, though I do not think abstinence gives one a position of moral authority. Godliness seems to be a better idea, and that can be applied to those who drink moderately/with self control and to those who chose to abstain. I think you would agree, but want that to be clear in this discussion.
