Tom Schreiner on Baptism

by Joe Thorn on January 14, 2007

Justin Taylor has posted an interview with Tom Schreiner, professor of New Testament Interpretation at Southern Seminary. It is a good dialog and will set you up for the forthcoming book Believer’s Baptism: Sign of the New Covenant in Christ edited by Schreiner and Shawn Wright. Check out the interview here.

Indeed, Believer’s Baptism begins with the belief that believer’s baptism (as opposed to infant baptism or other faith proclaiming methods) is the clear teaching of the New Testament.

How much of this do you think will just be preaching to the choir? Another book on believer’s baptism to arm people who already believe in believer’s baptism to refute the claims of other believers who believe otherwise.

I think it’s less about arguing with paedobaptists and more about not presuming to know credobaptism. Most baptists are pretty weak in understanding baptism, simply assuming our practice and tradition is right.
