I’ve been waiting for this; a documentary on running the marathon (26.2 miles). Spirit of the Marathon focuses on six runners, including beginners and elites, who run in the Chicago Marathon. It’s hitting select theaters later this month, and has a showing about 5 miles from our church’s building. I’ll be there. I got sick last week and have not been able to run in 2008 yet – but I am getting ready for a run later this morning. I plan on running in a half marathon this year, and a full marathon in 2009. Check out the 6 minute trailer. It’s worth it.

Joe, it’s been fun to get your running updates, to listen in on this new found love. I’m a runner too. I run, mostly hills (because of knee problems), about 4x a week on the trails near my house.

Enjoy your runs in 2008. I can’t imagine what it would be like to run in Illinois cold. My coldest winter runs are at about 55 degrees here in Cali.

Joe, I love reading your running updates too. I started running about a year and a half ago, lost a bunch of weight, feel a ton better, and just finished my first half marathon with a pretty respectable time. Plus it makes for great sermon prep thinking time.

I’m wanting to do a full marathon sometime later this year and I’m curious which marathon you’re planning to do… Chicago?

Like Justin, I feel for you too running in Illinois in January. “Winter” running in Cali is pretty sweet.

Yeah, I would love to do the Chicago Marathon. It’s flat course through my favorite city in the world. It’s huge race and usually very well organized (from what I’ve read). Of course, I’ll pretend last year’s mess didn’t happen.
