Steve and I get a lot of grief because we talk on the phone a bit (too much?). Look, we’re on the phone talking about important stuff: ideas related to ministry and family, asking for prayer, and just checking in in general. It’s great having such a good friend here. Sometimes we leave voice-mail. Here’s Steve’s most recent message. You need a friend like this. For your edification.

An old work pal and I call each other on occasion. We often have to leave messages – which tend to be strings of un-related movie quotes. So, if I get a message like this:
“They used to call me Crazy Joe, but now they can call me the Bat Man!!”
…or…
“I hung onto the Who’s helicopter as the flew away!”
…I know who to call back.
That’s a voicemail worth saving forever. And please don’t all say it at once, I know I should audition for American Idol. There, now you don’t have to say it.
Thanks Joe. I needed a splash of humility this morning, though this may be more than a splash.
Sweet.
I am shocked! I cannot believe Steve uses his “bedroom voice” with you.
Can you make that your personal ringtone for when Steve calls?
I actually wanted to talk about a sermon you did on sloth. I have ADD and am slothful. I have dealt with a messy house and disorganization for years. Not too long ago, the Lord brought to my attention all my wrongdoings and I repented. I have been working on developing a relationship with the Lord but I have my ups and downs. I am still working on getting my home in the condition it should be. I am ashamed of how I have lived and wondered if you had any advice on how to fight this. I am so disenheartened right now. I know the Lord forgives us for our sins but I can’t seem to get better with this one and I fear it will lead me to hell. Any words of advice would be so helpful. Thanks so much.
that’s so much better than “waaaazzzzuuuuup.” =)
I have a slew of voices I use when I call people, including everyone’s favorite (or at least mine): crazy old Uncle Geoffrey.
Thanks for posting this. Funny!
Joe,
Thanks for the great stuff on your blogsite. Consistently helpful and solid stuff. Let’s connect sometime. I work for IMPACT 360, a 9-month residential academic program for first-year college students in GA; we’re affiliated with Union University and Chick-fil-A, Inc. We emphasize biblical worldview, leadership, and a reformational understanding of vocation. Check us out at http://www.impact360.net. My blogsite is http://www.johnbasie.com. I’d love to connect with you via phone sometime. A close friend of mine was at Southern with you at the time you went through.
Keep up the great work–JDB
