Jason,

I am a part of Acts 29, and yes we all have to sign a statement of support for the UFC. ;)

I'll get to a post on contact and combat sports asap (from football, boxing, mixed martial arts, etc.) It interests me as a discussion. I find that most people objecting to mixed martial arts are very inconsistent when it comes to applying the same principle to other more "mainstream" sports that do much more damage to body and life.

Thanks for the comments.

Joe,

I apologize for being so reactive. You very nonchalantly placed a comment about UFC in your post. You are obviously an ACTS 29 supporter. I think Mark's "support" of UFC is ubiquitous. Mark's "support" has been typically centered around his comments concerning the need for a more masculine gospel or a more masculine 21st century church. A la a UFC-like Jesus?!? So, when you nonchalantly add a comment about wanting to watch a PPV UFC match, it leaves one to wonder.

I would like to see someone actually take the time to support the "justifiability" of MMA as a sport or as entertainment. I have a hard time justifying quite a lot of sport and entertainment as valuable for consumption as it is, much less MMA.

Jason, no one is suggesting that "real men" fight in mixed martial arts, and everyone else is a pansy. You're bringing a lot to this post with all that nonsense. If someone is making that point I would argue against them. How/why a "pastor" can support mixed martial arts is the same as asking why anyone can support it.

So to simplify the question - is mixed martial arts justifiable sport and entertainment? I think so, but my thoughts on the subject will have to wait for a later time, when I have time to give the post what it deserves. Good topic though.

Would someone please give me a good biblical theology of how/why a Pastor can support UFC?

I don't know if its just me or not, but I don't think I want my sons participating in UFC. I think they can be real men without it?!?

I don't think they will be pansies if they don't ever see a UFC match.

My vote would be UFC 84 (but don't tell Jen). :-) Sent a car to the airport.
