Holy Converse
Posted by Joe Thorn - 18/06/08I am working through a lot of issues related to prayer this week, and will post a few quotes and a couple conclusions of my own later.
In prayer there is not only an outgoing of the soul to God, in acts of faith, love and confidence, but there is an actual communication from God to the soul. Prayer is a holy converse - a fellowship with God. One hour spent in prayer will accomplish more good than many employed in study or labor.

Excellent quote, I have been struggling in with my prayers lately. I became convicted that I was just treating prayer as part of my day—just another thing to check off.

I wonder what he means by ’study’. I think that he probably means studying things like Math or history since it is linked with labor. If he means that an hour of prayer is more helpful than hours of meditation on Scripture, I would disagree. I don’t see them as exclusive.

What a great quote. I found recently that I was treating my prayer life almost like email. Compose the message, address it correctly, and hit the send button thus sending it into the air and trusting that it gets there. In high school I was involved in theater and one of the hardest things to do was make a script sound like natural conversation. Often this meant slowing down the dialog and leaving space for a reply. I have had to slow down a great bit when it comes to prayer just like in the theater. There is almost a natural space that happens in our prayer if we let it.
