Get the point, but think it only tells 1/2 the story. Let the Church share in the blame for the ways in which it has made this all-too-real scenario possible to play out. Create an environment where people are inclined (maybe even expected) to put on a happy face and that’s what you’re gonna get. I know the video was apparently related to James 3 and taming the tongue, but it seems to be more in keeping with James 1 or 4 and the idea of duplicity – a sin that we need to repent of not only on the individual level, but on the corporate level as well.
I think the video is great. It’s a short, and can only say so much. I don’t even think it tells half the story – and that’s okay. It simply points to a problem in a way I think most people can get. Like a good Eastwood-directed film, no redemption is found in the film, but the need for it is painfully obvious.
Thanks for the feedback guys – even the “meh’s” are okay here. It’s good to know how others feel about it.
Short and predictable as it may have been, it was still a convicting message. Putting on a show in a place where authenticity is what people come looking for…
Yes, it was predictable but also thought provoking.
Some of our best( that should be worst) arguments have occurred walking to church!
However, there are also times I deliberately make Sunday mornings a good time. I tell the kids I am excited about going to church and we get excited together.
I act the same way I do as when my favourite team score a goal…so they do get the message!
I am the Lead Pastor of Redeemer Fellowship; husband to Jen; Dad to Katherine, Elias, Madeline, and Kilian. If you're in town you can probably find me in the local coffee house or running through the neighborhoods.
