Advice from J.I. Packer

by Joe Thorn on March 30, 2009

Mike Anderson just posted some video of J.I. Packer over at The Resurgence. While at the Christian Book Expo in Dalas, TX Packer gives advice to new followers of Christ (which is, of course, relevant to even the “old” followers of Christ). In 3 minutes and 33 seconds he gives wonderful, biblical, classic counsel: stay in the Scripture, pray frequently (practicing the presence of God), stay with the church – don’t go off on your own (worship corporately, build relationships and live in community) and tell others about Jesus.

If you don’t already have his classic, Knowing God, it’s one of those must-haves for every Christian. Buy it now.

Thanks for posting this. What a gracious man of God and what solid advice for all of us.

I wish Dr. Packer was my grandfather. I read Knowing God my freshman year of college and find myself going back to it often. Dr. Packer is certainly one of my heroes; what an amazing man.

Excellent advice !

Timely post Joe.
I was just thinking through what I would teach the youth group after summer, and I have decided on going through “Knowing God” with them.

This post seems to confirm that it would be a good choice!
