Infographic: Ordo Salutis

by Joe Thorn on January 12, 2012

I love theology and good infographics (as does Tim Challies, obviously). Tim posted a great infographic from Soapbox Studios that teaches the “ordo salutis.” This one is not as detailed as John Bunyan’s “infographic,” but then again Bunyan’s was more “info” than “graphic.” Head over to Tim’s blog to see the high-res version.

I like this, though I would suggest that the choice of layout and concept does little to dispel the thoughts we all struggle with: that our faith is a ladder or progression where we climb up — which becomes something to be either proud about as we look down on others not as “mature” as we are, or something to despair about when we feel like we’re steps behind others. Instead of the way that Sonship tends to teach and visualize it that we are placed on the rock of justification. Anything that shows a life of faith in any sense related to a ladder or a mountain or something with levels of progress gives me a hard time.
