Yesterday I grabbed lunch with Tim Smith (church planting intern at Redeemer Fellowship) and Tom Schmidt. Tom is the third church planter Redeemer Fellowship has sent out since we planted in 2007. Cross of Christ Fellowship is still in the beginning stages developing their core group, training leaders, making disciples, and doing the hard work of evangelism. Tom has been utilizing MeetUp.com as a means of connecting with people in the city and sharing the gospel. I love what he is doing and wanted you to hear how he's doing it. Check out the brief video interview, and if you would like the support this new church plant be sure to visit their website.
On Sunday I preached from 1 John 3:1 on The Love of God. If you missed it you can listen here. I mentioned the song "Love Like This" by The Avett Brothers and you can check it out below.
(To see them tear this up live on stage, watch this other video)
To dive deeper into divine love do yourself a favor and pick up John Bunyan's classic, All Loves Excelling.
"Know thy self, what a vile, horrible, abominable sinner thou art: For thou canst not know the love of Christ, before thou knowest the badness of thy nature. 'O wretched man that I am' (Rom. 7:24), must be, before a man can perceive the nature of the love of Christ. He that sees himself but little, will hardly know much of the love of Christ: he that sees of himself nothing at all, will hardly ever see anything of the love of Christ. But he that sees most of what an abominable wretch he is, he is like to see most of what is the love of Christ."
