Christian hip-hop is taking off, and I praise God for it. Incredible skill with bold and biblical lyricism is challenging many and being received more broadly than expected. I really enjoy hip-hop, but my musical diet since I was a young boy has always included and favored metal.
One of my favorite metal bands is Extol, a Christian metal band from Norway. Their "death metal" albums Burial and Undeceived (their best IMO) are among my favorite albums and still get a lot of play. They were creating original, technical, metal that earned the respect of both Christian and secular audiences while lifting up the biblical truths of sin, salvation, and the glory of Jesus Christ.
The band broke up around 2007, but have come together again during the making of a documentary about the band. So we can expect both a film and a new album that sound like a return to form. I can't wait.
