In 1993 I read what would turn out to be a very formative book in my life. I was a 3 year old Christian and Donald Whitney's, Spiritual Disciplines for the Christian Life helped me to better understand and practice disciplines like, prayer, fasting, silence and solitude, journaling, and many others. Since then I have read it a few times and often recommend it.
Dr. Whitney has revised and updated the book, making it even better. If you haven't read this book, I hope you will check it out. It is my "go-to" book on the disciplines. If you have read it you should get the revised and updated edition. What's different? Dr. Whitney has added over 10,000 words of new material, he has incorporated the relevance of the gospel itself to each particular discipline, and he's updated the language to allow the book's content to remain timeless in its examples and application. The companion Study Guide to Spiritual Disciplines for the Christian Life has also been updated.
For me this is a must-have resource. I hope you will check it out.
